DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys offseason has been anything but uneventful. From head-scratching moves during free agency to OTAs kicking off, there have been plenty of storylines to follow.
Perhaps the biggest move of the offseason was when the Cowboys traded away Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper.
Dallas, fresh off an NFC East title and playoff berth, opted to part ways with one of the best players on the roster. To make matters worse, the Cowboys only received a fifth-round draft pick in return for trading away Cooper.
There were arguments on both sides of the equation. On one hand, Cooper was the go-to target for Dak Prescott and is one of the best route runners in the NFL. On the other, he was set to earn a hefty salary in 2022 and was banged up for much of the last season.
Regardless of where you stand on the topic, the Dallas Cowboys made the call to move on.
Jerry Jones makes bold statement about a Cowboys' Pro Bowler.
Along the same lines, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had some interesting things to say about the decision to part ways with Cooper. A big reason why the move was made, according to Jones, was because of a player on the roster.
Jones told the Star-Telegram that CeeDee Lamb will be "an upgrade over Cooper as a true No. 1 receiver in the Cowboys offense."
That's a bold claim considering Lamb is entering his third season in the league, while Cooper was an established star in the league. Nevertheless, Lamb did earn his first Pro Bowl nod last season and is ready for his larger role.
“I’ve been ready," Lamb said about being the No. 1 target in the Cowboys offense. "That’s just me and my competitiveness. That’s in my nature. I’m always ready for my name to be called."
Furthermore, Dak Prescott is expecting big things out of the 2020 first-round draft pick.
"With him being young, hopefully he’s my WR until I’m done playing," Prescott said of Lamb during the early OTAs sessions.
Amari Cooper and Cedrick Wilson are off the roster, leaving a void in the passing game. CeeDee Lamb appears to be ready to step up and be the guy for the Dallas Cowboys.
