The quarterback carousel has already begun around the NFL.

Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Rams sent Jared Goff and a package of draft picks to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford. That is the first domino to fall in an offseason that is expected to have a lot of quarterback movement.

The Dallas Cowboys would be smart to stay out of all it and re-sign quarterback Dak Prescott as soon as possible. Prescott is better than both of the quarterbacks that were involved in the first big trade of the offseason.

Additionally, Dak Prescott is, arguably, better than any other signal-caller that is reportedly on the market through trade, free agency, or the draft; therefore, it would make a ton of sense for the Cowboys to lock things up with the face of their franchise.

Legendary Dallas Cowboys coach says Cowboys need to get Dak Prescott signed.

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson knows a thing or two about winning. He had great success at the University of Miami before leading the Dallas Cowboys to a boatload of sucess in the 90s.

The Cowboys haven't come close to winning a Super Bowl since Johnson parted ways with America's Team, so it would probably be smart to listen to what he has to say.

Recently, the Pro Football Hall of Famer spoke on the Dak Prescott contract situation. He believes that the Cowboys need to stop playing around and secure their quarterback to a long-term deal:

"They've got a great leader that is an outstanding quarterback that can win you a championship. Get him signed."

Johnson explained that Prescott may not be as talented as Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes — who is? — but it doesn't make sense to get rid of a talented quarterback in your own building.

The Cowboys have had numerous opportunities to get a deal done with Prescott and sign him long-term, but they have kept kicking the can down the road in favor of rewarding other players on the roster.

2016 draft classmates Jared Goff and Carson Wentz received big money deals, as have 2017 draft picks Mahomes and Watson. 2018 selections Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are likely to sign big deals this offseason as well.

The longer that the Cowboys wait, the more the price is going to go up when they do finally decide to secure their franchise signal-caller.

Either that, or the team risks falling back into quarterback purgatory — a spot they were in from the time Troy Aikman left town until Dallas lucked into undrafted free agent Tony Romo.

Jimmy Johnson says that the Dallas Cowboys need to sign Dak Prescott. We can only hope that the front office will get it done sooner rather than later.
