Dallas Cowboys fans have been waiting for the throwback uniforms to make a comeback. With the NFL bringing back alternate helmets for the 2022 season, they're getting their wish.
But it would seem like they're getting a bit more than that.
With the recent wave of helmet announcements storming NFL social media, the league's official account put out a graphic to recap all of the new looks that will be featured next season.
Cowboys fans might've been too excited about the throwback helmet making a comeback for the first time in 10 years that they might've missed the fact that there's an additional brand new Cowboys helmet on the Throwback Helmets list.
That's right! Here's a closer look from @CowboysNation, who first pointed this out on Twitter.
The most logical explanation would be for it to be a new helmet to go with the color rush uniforms.
The Dallas Cowboys haven't made any official announcement on the apparent new helmet but coming from the official NFL account, it would appear such an announcement is imminent.
Now granted, in the age of social media, this could be a simple mistake by the league. We've seen worse. However, the tweet hasn't been taken down after being published on Thursday morning.
This would suggest the Dallas Cowboys are indeed set to wear three different helmets in 2022.
NFL rules indicate teams will be allowed a second helmet, meaning teams will be able to have two different colored shells. However, multiple decals on the same shells work. Apparently, both Cowboys helmets pictured in the graphic by the NFL are white with different decals.
