Michael Gallup has been a key part of the Dallas Cowboys offense since his rookie season in 2018. The third-round draft pick out of Colorado State formed a connection with Dak Prescott early, paving the way to become a top secondary option in the league.

Gallup has posted a 1,000 season and is an important piece on the Cowboys. He has proven to be a trusted option in the passing attack. His ability to be a deep threat provides the Cowboys with something different than other receivers on the roster.

The 2021 season saw Gallup struggle to stay healthy. The fourth-year wideout suffered a calf strain that sidelined him for a good chunk of the schedule. Then, he tore his ACL against the Cardinals soon after returning to action.

That knee injury ended his chances of contributing in the playoffs and has him likely to be sidelined to start the 2022 season. That, combined with him never being a No. 1 option, resulted in the Dallas Cowboys getting a bit of bargain in free agency.

Gallup listed among best value contracts in NFL

Dallas inked Gallup to a five-year, $57.5 million deal in free agency. That move ultimately played some role in the Cowboys moving on from Amari Cooper. It also locked the pass catcher in with the team for the foreseeable future.

Pro Football Focus ranked the top-32 contract values in the league entering the 2022 season. Sitting inside the top-30 is Gallup's contract with the Cowboys. PFF sees that Dallas signed the receiver to a deal that is beneficiary to the team.

Gallup, had he been fully healthy, likely cashes in on the open market. Especially since the Jaguars broke the bank for Christian Kirk. However, the Cowboys were able to keep a reliable target and good friend of Dak Prescott on the roster for a reasonable price.

With Cooper and Cedrick Wilson off to new teams, the receivers room as a whole will have a lot more on their plate. CeeDee Lamb is expected to step up and there is some excitement brewing about rookie Jalen Tolbert.

Michael Gallup will continue to be a key part of the Cowboys' offensive success when he returns healthy to the field. It was smart for the team to lock him down for the future in free agency.
