The Dallas Cowboys could very well look different on the offensive side of the ball in 2023.
Running back Ezekiel Elliott has a price tag that doesn't quite add up to his play on the field, and Tony Pollard is an unrestricted free agent. So, it's possible that last season was it when it comes to Elliott and Pollard being in the same backfield.
One analyst believes it certainly should be the end.
Earlier this week, Michael Robinson of NFL Network says the Cowboys should part ways with Elliott and grab a particular stud in the draft.
"I'm not so sure Ezekiel Elliott can be the lead back anymore," Robinson said. "Tony Pollard is a lot more explosive, and maybe that can draft a guy. What about that kid out of Texas, right? Bijan, what is it? Bijan Robinson.
"If the Dallas Cowboys want to truly be a team that owns the line of scrimmage, then yes. I draft him, I let Ezekiel Elliott go, and then you'll have a placeholder for Tony Pollard when Tony Pollard comes back."
What Robinson is referring to is Pollard recovering from the broken leg and high ankle sprain he suffered in the Cowboys' playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Robinson is a premier player in the upcoming draft after winning the Doak Walker due to rushing for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Longhorns in 2022. So, it's completely plausible that he won't even be available when the Cowboys make their selection with the 26th pick.
If Robinson is still on the board with the 26th overall pick and the Cowboys do part ways with Elliott as Robinson suggests, it'll be extremely hard for the Cowboys to say no even with wide receiver and cornerback being more pressing needs.
Longtime draft analyst Mel Kiper mentioned last month that Robinson would be a great fit with the Cowboys in his mock draft. When Robinson saw it, he had this to say.
“Yeah man, that was blowing up in the media yesterday,” said Robinson with a smile. “It’s wherever God has me and wherever God places me, that’s where I’m going to be at and be a fan of. We won’t know until draft day of where I’m at and I’ll continue to keep enjoying this process and having a good time. That’s cool to see because I play here at Texas. Wherever I’m at, I’m excited to get it going.”
The social media world will be buzzing with anticipation if Robinson is still there when the Cowboys make their first-round pick, and it will explode if his name is called.
