The Dallas Cowboys are riding high having won four consecutive games and six of their last seven. This Sunday, they face the 5-8 Jaguars, in what looks like a mismatch on paper. However, a former NFL quarterback has some Interesting thoughts on this matchup.
NFL Network's David Carr sees the Cowboys' contest with Jaguars as a battle down the final minutes, but his result won't exactly win him any friends in North Texas.
"The Cowboys were on the cusp of losing to the one-win Texans last weekend , but an 11-play, 98-yard touchdown drive improved Dallas to 10-3. With the 'Boys visiting Jacksonville on Sunday, Trevor Lawrence gives them a taste of their own medicine, leading the Jaguars to a late-game, comeback win."
Although the Cowboys have twice as many wins as the Jaguars, Carr's words are far-fetched. In addition to needing a miracle to beat an inferior Texans team, Dallas flirted with disaster the week before as they were only up by two entering the fourth quarter against the lowly Colts before a 33-point explosion.
Dallas will be on the road Sunday, and they are facing a hot quarterback in Trevor Lawrence. Over his last five games, Lawrence has thrown for 1,362 yards and 10 touchdowns with no interceptions, completing nearly 72% of his passes. Also, Lawrence is coming off of his best performance of the season last week when he became the first Jaguars player to throw for over 300 yards (368), throw three touchdowns, and run for a score in the same game in a huge road win against the Titans.
This could cause an interesting set of events if the Cowboys are in a tight game with the Jaguars. However, the Cowboys are averaging 35.7 points per game since Dak Prescott's return, so if the Cowboys jump out to a sizeable lead and make the Jaguars' one-dimensional, Micah Parsons and the pass rush could make things ugly for Lawrence.
One thing is for certain, the Cowboys have to show better focus on Sunday than they have the previous few weeks, or another dance with the devil could turn fatal.
