The Dallas Cowboys have several rookies on their roster that have an opportunity to make an immediate impact. One of them is small in stature, but he plays big.
Dallas waited until the sixth round to add firepower to the running back spot by taking Deuce Vaughn out of Kansas State who stands just 5'5". Vaughn dominated the Big 12 by being named Offensive Freshman of the Year, a Consensus All-American, a Unanimous All-American, and a three-time second-team Big 12 performer.
Any athlete, no matter the sport, has a player that inspired them to put on cleats and hit the gridiron. Fanatics recently did a short documentary called "The Locker Room" where rookies got surprised by their NFL heroes. Vaughn got a message and gift from one of the greatest players in league history, Hall of Famer, Barry Sanders.
"This dude right here is the reason why I play this game. It's the reason why I work so hard," Vaughn said looking at the autographed jersey Sanders gave him. "This is huge."
Vaughn wasn't the only Cowboys' rookie that got surprised, though.
Second-round pick, tight end Luke Schoonmaker, got his unforgettable moment via San Francisco 49ers All-Pro, George Kittle.
"Luke, congrats on getting your foot in the door, now go kick it down. Be great today," Schoonmaker said reading Kittle's autographed jersey to him. "I got chills. I mean, that's crazy."
Vaughn is a speedster who is exclusive in the open field and can hit his head on the goalpost with any given touch. Schoonmaker not only provides pass-catching ability but he's also a good blocker which is essential in 12 personnel, something the Cowboys run quite a bit.
Well, Vaughn and Schoonmaker just got all the motivation they need to make a name for themselves early.
