CeeDee Lamb made the Dallas Cowboys look extremely smart this season after taking him with the 17th overall pick in 2020. The former Oklahoma Sooner finished tied for fifth in receptions (107), sixth in receiving yards (1,359), and tied for sixth in receiving touchdowns with nine this season.

Other than Lamb, the Cowboys were dreadful at receiver in 2022. Among the other seven receivers that saw playing time, they only managed 1,161 yards and seven touchdowns, making wide receiver a significant need for the Cowboys.

According to Pro Football Focus, it's the biggest question the Cowboys have to answer this offseason.

Sam Monson on the Cowboys wide receiver situation:

"Trading Amari Cooper away last offseason left the team yearning for a secondary threat to go alongside CeeDee Lamb. Somebody exactly like…Amari Cooper.

"Though the team decided they didn’t need Cooper’s contract on the books, they did need what he brought to the table. Playoffs included, Lamb accounted for 75 first downs this season, while no other Dallas receiver managed more than 34.

"Dak Prescott had his worst season since the last time he didn’t have Amari Cooper to throw to, and Dallas once again came up short in the postseason."

The Cowboys will never admit that they botched the Amari Cooper situation, but they did. It was unwise to part ways with him and only get a late-round pick in return. Also, it was even more alarming to bank on Michael Gallup who was coming off a torn ACL, and rookie receiver Jalen Tolbert to replace what he brought to the table.

Dallas did sign veteran T.Y. Hilton in December and even made a run at Odell Beckham Jr, which they plan to revisit. However, with a talented group of wide receivers in the 2023 draft class, the Cowboys' best opportunity to add a possible big-time weapon at the position may be in the early rounds.

The Cowboys created an unnecessary issue at the receiver position, and they desperately need to find a solution in the next few months.
