The Dallas Cowboys were without veteran running back Ezekiel Elliott in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears after banging up his knee in the previous games versus the Detroit Lions. Thanks to backup Tony Pollard and his 131 rushing yards and three touchdowns, the Cowboys didn't miss a beat toting the rock.
This Sunday, the Cowboys will face the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field and their 26th-ranked run defense. Pollard will be ready to go, but according to Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones, Elliott is expected to be back as well.
“It’s anticipated that he’ll be ready to go," said Jones on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.
This is the second straight season Elliott has had a knee issue. Last year, he injured his knee in Week 4 versus the Carolina Panthers but didn't miss any games. However, at the season's end, it was revealed that it was a torn PCL.
The rise in Pollard's play may have some believing Elliott hasn't been productive in 2022, but that's untrue. He's run for 443 yards in seven games, racking up 4.1 yards per rush. Also, he's crossed the goal line four times.
Elliott and Pollard have been quite the tandem this season, albeit quietly. They have combined for at least 140 yards three times, and the Cowboys have done the "Landry Shift" in victory in each case.
Of course, in these situations, the most important thing is to not compromise the player, and Jones spoke about how Elliott's progress will be monitored throughout the week. If he's ready to roll, the Cowboys' offense will be that much more formidable when they visit the land of cheese.
