The Dallas Cowboys are currently 11-4 and have clinched a playoff spot. They have had some struggles versus teams with losing records, like their loss to the Green Bay Packers and barely beating the Houston Texans, who were 1-10-1 at the time.
Dallas has done one thing extremely well, though. The Cowboys have shown a knack for beating teams with winning records, going 5-1 in those scenarios in 2022, with their only loss coming against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.
This is a good sign for the Cowboys as the postseason approaches. Four of these five wins have come against NFC opponents, who are all currently in the playoffs and three of them have already clinched. Also, their one lone win against an AFC team with a winning record was against the Cincinnati Bengals, who have 11 wins and have clinched a playoff spot themselves.
The Cowboys faced three of these six opponents without quarterback Dak Prescott who missed five games with a fractured thumb on his throwing hand. However, the Cowboys have shown tremendous resolve in those situations by pulling out two wins.
Prescott is just one of several players that have missed time against these teams. Left tackle Tyron Smith didn't return to the field until Week 14 after tearing his hamstring, and right tackle Terence Steele suffered a torn ACL/MCL that same week which ended his season. Also, cornerbacks Jourdan Lewis and Anthony Brown are out for the year.
Dallas may have a good record, but they still have some things to clean up. They have to get their turnover problem under control, their defense hasn't played its best over the last month, and they need to play better against lesser teams.
Even with all that being true, they have found a way to get it done against the better teams that they have faced. This doesn't guarantee it will be that way in the postseason, but it certainly gives a lot of confidence that it could.
