Will wide receiver Amari Cooper be on the Dallas Cowboys' roster in 2022?

That's one of the big mysteries surrounding the team right now.

Earlier this week, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was non-commital on Cooper returning to Dallas next season.

“It’s too early for me to address that yet,” said Jones at the NFL scouting combine. “I mean, we’re continuing to have conversations.”

Pro Football Focus writer Conor McQuiston is in the camp that believes Cooper is getting traded.

"With Michael Gallup on the move, Cedrick Wilson on an expiring contract and Amari Cooper likely to be traded, there is a clear on the Cowboys for another receiving option,"  wrote McQuiston this week.

Dallas could save $16 million in cap space by moving on from Cooper. The Cowboys badly need the cap salary cap room, though I still think they need to find a way to keep Cooper on the roster.

However, if they feel like they have no other choice but to move on from Cooper, then trading him would be the right option. Cooper is too valuable of an asset to just dump him for nothing. At the very least, the Cowboys should try to get a draft pick out of a team for the former Alabama wide receiver.

A month ago, my gut said that Dallas wouldn't get rid of Cooper. But now, I'm not so sure. Jones' comments this week certainly make it seem like the Cowboys are preparing to move on from Cooper.
