There has been a ton of speculation surrounding Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott is not only returning from a devastating ankle injury that ended his 2020 season; he has also been dealing with a shoulder injury that has limited him in practice over the last few weeks.
Naturally, the Dallas Cowboys fan base falls on two sides. One side believes that there is nothing to worry about and that Prescott and the Cowboys are simply taking precaution ahead of the regular season. The other side believes that the team is hiding something that Prescott is more injured than what they are leading on.
The truth is likely somewhere in the middle.
RUMORS HEATED UP OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS
The Dallas Cowboys are always the center of the sports world. That has certainly been the case recently. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told the media earlier in the week that Prescott would not play this weekend versus the Texans, effectively eliminating any chance of him playing this preseason.
That, in addition to Prescott being limited throwing passes in practice, has raised some red flags. Why are the Cowboys not allowing their quarterback to get live reps ahead of his return to the football field? An argument can certainly be made that there is no need for Prescott to play in meaningless exhibition games.
ESPN's Adam Schefter mentioned on Friday night during the Cardinals-Chiefs game that Prescott may not be "fully healthy" all season for the Cowboys. Obviously, that raised more concern for Cowboys fans.
This was met with pushback from many on Twitter — including a tweet from Manwell McLean (aka Chef Hoppie), who is a celebrity chef that cooks for Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, CeeDee Lamb, and more. The tweet was retweeted by Prescott's brother, Tad.
When you add in the fact that Schefter never wrote a report or even tweeted what he said on air, it stands reason to believe that Schefter reported some misinformation about the situation.
REPORTS SUGGEST PRESCOTT WILL BE READY FOR WEEK ONE
Furthermore, reports surfaced on Saturday that Dak Prescott will be ready to go for week one against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The speculation that Prescott has had some setbacks in his recovery appear to be false.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Dak has had "absolutely no setbacks" and is set to start week one against the defending Super Bowl champs. Pelissero went on to say that while the Cowboys have been cautious, Prescott will see a bigger workload as soon as next week.
That news certainly provides some relief. There has not been a ton of information regarding Prescott as of late, so any bit of reporting along these lines is very appreciated. Add in Prescott's determination to get back on the field, things seem to be pointing in the right direction.
ESPN's Stephania Bell added on to Pelissero's report. She is also reporting that sources have told her that Prescott will be a "full go" on September 9. "Absolutely zero setbacks", Bell tweeted on Saturday afternoon.
There will continue to be speculation regarding Prescott until he steps on the field for week one. Or, at the very least, until he is more involved in practice. Pelissero and Bell both have sources that are adamant that Dak Prescott is fully on track to open the season.
