DALLAS — It is difficult to not read too much into OTAs, especially when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys. Each and every little thing will be dissected until kickoff arrives in September.

With that said, there are some things coming out of OTAs that are worth noting. For one, the Cowboys reportedly plan on giving running back Tony Pollard a larger role. That is something that would have a big impact on the offense.

Pollard's role is not the only storyline on the offensive side. The Dallas Cowboys are giving a young receiver on the roster an opportunity to potentially carve out a role as the calendar flips to June.

Rising Cowboys receiver getting first-team reps

Simi Fehoko was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fifth-round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Fehoko was a standout receiver at Stanford, but his rookie campaign did not see much production at all out wide.

Obviously, the Cowboys were set at the position prior to adding Fehoko. Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb were established and Cedrick Wilson emerged while Michael Gallup missed most of last season due to injuries. There was not much of a role for Fehoko, a day-three rookie, to have.

The 6-3, 220-pound target was inactive for the majority of his first season in the league. However, he used the opportunity to soak as much knowledge as possible from the veterans on the roster.

"I think last year was an interesting one for me," Fehoko told the team's website. "Just being in there and getting my feet wet, I felt like with the receiver room we had some dudes. So, taking all that from [Cooper], from [Wilson], from [Gallup], all these guys. I just started trying to apply it and just get better every day."

With Cooper and Wilson off the roster and Michael Gallup recovering from a torn ACL, the door is open for Simi Fehoko to make a move on the depth chart. Fehoko is starting to see first-team reps in practice, pointing to some positive developments in his growth on the field.

Fehoko developing connection with Dak

Furthermore, Fehoko is building a bond with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. That certainly cannot hurt the second-year wideout as he looks to make an impact for the Cowboys in the fall.

"I ended up staying here and I was able to work with Dak a little bit through the offseason," Fehoko said, via DallasCowboys.com. "It's been smooth for me, just being able to deal with them and be here the whole offseason."

It is a critical offseason for Fehoko and his future with the Cowboys. There is an opportunity to be had out wide, but Dallas did go out and add James Washington through free agency and Jalen Tolbert through the draft. There will certainly be competition.

If OTAs are any indication, Simi Fehoko is prepared to take advantage of the opportunities in front of him.
