When the Cowboys entered the 2021 NFL draft, they needed a heavy dose of defense. One of their Day 2 picks was defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa in the third round.
Odighizuwa has established himself as a big part of the Cowboys' defense with 79 tackles (14 tackles for loss), six sacks, and 22 quarterback hits in 33 games (29 starts). Now, a young up-and-coming prospect is being mentioned as a suitable player comp to him according to Pro Football Focus, and that's defensive tackle Moro Ojomo out of Texas.
Ojomo is a little too limited to go early in the draft, but his next team will get a high-floor run defender wherever he comes off the board.
Omojo has a few things in common with Odighizuwa.
When Odighizuwa was at UCLA, he played inside and he came off the edge which spoke to his versatility, and it's carried to the NFL. He's logged 92 snaps in the A-gap, 849 in the B-gap, 243 over the tackle, and 45 out wide.
Ojomo spread his ability out as well. He registered 235 snaps in the A-gap, 397 in the B-gap, 346 over the tackle, and 413 out wide during his days at Texas.
Then there's the similarity in size. Coming into the league, Odighizuwa was measured at 6'2" and 280 pounds, and Ojomo measured at 6'3" and 292 pounds.
Both Odighizuwa and Ojomo may be looked at as undersized guys but both use great leverage and power to defeat much larger interior offensive linemen. That's also thanks to quick first steps as well as active hands when they're engaging blockers.
So, it's not hard to see why Ojomo is being compared to Odighizuwa, and seeing as Cowboys' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn loves versatility, Ojomo may be a name to keep an eye on.
