The NFL trade deadline is approaching, and it seems that the Dallas Cowboys will not be moving any of their young talent. Most notably, that includes wide receiver, Michael Gallup. Reports indicate that Dallas will roll with their current roster for the time being.

This decision by Dallas shows Cowboys fans a couple of things.

The first is that the team’s leadership believes they still have a shot to win the weak NFC East this season. That is certainly a fair assumption to make considering Dallas’ poor play only has them tied for second in the division. Those standings are the case ahead of a pivotal Sunday night game against the Eagles.

The latter is that the team does not want to break down the roster any further because, even if this year does not go as planned, their young guys are still the basis of their roster. Furthermore, it is a depth chart they are confident in going into the future.

Youthful players will have to be big contributors while they are on their rookie contracts because of the team’s salary cap limitations. Those limitations are largely because of the contracts given to Amari Cooper, Ezekiel Elliott, and Jaylon Smith.

All of that being said, the team has been happy with Gallup’s production. They also know his value will only increase if they do somehow move on from the Cooper contract in the future. If they cannot move on from Cooper, the trio of Cooper/Gallup/Lamb will be lethal no matter who the quarterback may be.

The Cowboys also seem to trust that Gallup can be a very effective downfield target if given opportunities. He certainly proved that in 2019 when he had consistent QB play. Gallup had the 7th highest yards per reception in the entire NFL at 16.8. He was in the same tier as guys like Mike Evans and Kenny Golladay in that statistic. Not to mention, he was a very efficient 3rd down target for Dak Prescott.

Furthermore, Jerry Jones said that he expects Andy Dalton to be ready to go next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He shared this yesterday on 105.3 The Fan. Jones’ confidence in Dalton going forward points to his view on the QB position for the rest of the season. Despite speculation, it does not seem like Dallas will be making a move for any other quarterback at the deadline. This ensures that, for the most part, they will keep their current assets and draft capital in-hand until the offseason, which is bound to be an entertaining one.
