The Dallas Cowboys have thrown fans a curveball this Friday. The latest news leaves the fanbase hoping for a little extra on top of a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Cowboys Nation is aware this defense can win the team the game even without its starting quarterback.

But the door is just a tiny bit open for a surprise comeback.

Dak Prescott, who had been ruled out by this stage of the week with a thumb injury since Week 2, is listed as questionable on the Cowboys' final injury report. For the first time since suffering the injury in the season opener, Prescott practiced on a limited basis on Thursday.

On Friday morning, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that Prescott was ahead of schedule. He also confirmed he'd work out before the game this weekend.

All that leaves Cowboys Nation in a similar spot as last year's showdown against the Minnesota Vikings. Wondering – perhaps all the way up to game time – if we're in for a surprise against the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, fans would be very wise to tame their expectations. Cowboys' head coach Mike McCarthy has told the media he'd like for Dak to have a full week of practice before getting him back to game action. So far, he hasn't had a full practice.

It would be quite a pivot to put Dak out there, especially against a loaded defensive front like the Eagles'.

Another question some have asked themselves is if the Cowboys would be willing to suit up Prescott as an emergency quarterback in the event a worst-case scenario injury happens. That would be a bold approach from Dallas but could be understood in such a high-stakes division game.
