What a game! The Dallas Cowboys had to fight for every inch and yard in this 35-29 wild finish against New England.
The Cowboys were not perfect by any means, even though the stats will show they controlled time of possession and had more yards.
The difference was the character of the team did not let those miscues defeat them.
Let's discuss three key moments in the game that sealed the overtime victory for the Cowboys.
Randy Gregory sack + fumble
Randy Gregory's first sack, which resulted in a forced fumble, came on 2nd and 17 play early in the 2nd quarter.
The fumble recovery was scooped up by rookie DE Chauncey Golston at their own 49-yard line.
Over the past three games, Gregory has posted six tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble.
Gregory has proven this season how focused and dominating he has been for opposing linemen.
This play was the turning point in the game as the Patriots were looking to score on their first three possessions.
If Randy can come out of the bye week and continue to show his dominance as he has through the first six games, the Cowboys will continue on their win streak.
4th down circus catch by Cedrick Wilson
Cedrick Wilson overall had a rough day as he had a touchdown drop and a near-fumble on a punt return.
The play he was able to make up for those miscues was clutch catch on 4th down to keep the drive alive.
This incredible catch by Wilson saved the Cowboys the game and gave the team a chance at an OT win.
Dak Prescott will always give you a chance to make a play if you manage to get yourself open and that is exactly what Wilson managed to do on that drive.
The Cowboys knew they had to rely on their receivers as the Patriots' defense focused on stopping the run.
What stands true is they walked out of Foxborough knowing they stood up and won the challenge.
CeeDee Lamb's Walk-off TD score
This was by far the play that put the hard-fought game to an end as CeeDee Lamb's 35-yard wide-open TD helped the Boys improve to 5-1.
It was also a career game for Lamb as he finished with 9 catches, 149 yards, and 2TD's.
With Michael Gallup being sidelined since week 1 and Amari Cooper nursing nagging injuries, Lamb knew the offense was counting on him.
Patriots defense had no answer for Lamb and he made them pay for it in OT fashion.
Next Up…
The team will head back to Dallas to rest up as they will be on a bye week.
The Cowboys will not play their next game until Oct. 31 when they go up against the Minnesota Vikings.
The extra week will allow players such as Michael Gallup, Lael Collins, and Neville Gallimore to practice and return to the lineup.
One thing for sure is the second half of the season looks very bright for the Cowboys.
