The Dallas Cowboys have one of the most polarizing players in the NFL when it comes to quarterback Dak Prescott. There's no in-between, people either love him or hate him.
While it's every fan's choice to make their judgments on a player, it losses value when it doesn't have substance, which is the case a lot with Prescott. Yes, he had more interceptions than anyone would have liked in 2022, but that's not been the type of player Prescott has been throughout his career, regardless of what a lot of fans and so-called experts say.
One of the most respected NFL analysts in the business, ESPN's Mina Kimes, debunked the narrative that Prescott is a turnover-prone player and that he's not a top-10 quarterback on her podcast "The Mina Kimes Show" recently.
"I have Dak Prescott at eight, and it is crazy to me that anyone would think he's not a top-10 quarterback in the NFL," Kimes said. "Dak Prescott, since he was drafted in 2016, fifth in QBR. His adjusted net yards per attempt which is a good metric, it accounts for touchdowns, and sacks, interceptions basically. His career ANY/A is ninth in NFL history. He's right behind Tony Romo hilariously, another underrated Cowboys quarterback.
"The big thing on him right now of course is that last year he had the worst interception rate in football. But from 2016 through 2021, the first five years of his career, amongst all quarterbacks who started at least 50 games, he had the fifth-lowest interception rate in football. He was tied with Drew Brees.
"Maybe something broke inside of his brain and this interception rate is going to continue, but I'm going to bet on the fact that the previous five seasons it was not a problem. So like the obsession with it, and there's multiple reasons for that, I've talked about them, some of it is on the Cowboys receivers, some of it is on Dak himself I think, and the types of throws he tries to make. But just expand your sample size and consider this dudes freaking career when he was fine. That's all I have to say about that."
Talk to them, Mina.
Prescott's interception rate last season was 3.8 which isn't ideal. However, it's been between 0.9 and 1.8 every season besides that except for 2017 when it was 2.7 for the year. Even with his high rate a season ago, Prescott’s 2.0 interception rate for his career is tied for the ninth lowest in NFL history.
That's what's been so crazy about how Prescott was perceived during the 2022 season and through this offseason. Football fans and the media have pretty much labeled him this turnover machine when the facts clearly show otherwise.
There have been too many false narratives about Prescott and they need to stop, expeditiously.
Top NFL analyst thinks Cowboys have big edge over Eagles and it isn’t even July yet
Very valid points were made.
