Trevon Diggs found himself still on the board in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. His wait didn't last much longer, however. After taking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the first round, the Cowboys added Diggs with the intention of making him their CB1 of the future.

Diggs had his struggles out of the gate. However, by the end of his rookie year, Diggs showed the promise that made him such a hot commodity coming out of Alabama with three interceptions in his final five games. In 2021, Diggs was other-worldly as his 11 interceptions led the NFL and earned him an All-Pro nod.

As great as all that may be, the Cowboys' top cornerback isn't satisfied by any means as he looks to make 2022 his best campaign yet.

"I just feel I've got to improve my game all around," Diggs said on Thursday. "Just being a complete corner, just being that shutdown corner. I feel like I'm going to do everything I can working this offseason to take it to the next step and the next level."

Diggs is 28 games into his career and he has already amassed 14 interceptions and 35 passes defended (he ranked second in 2021 with 21). A lot of the credit for the tremendous start to his career can be contributed to the guidance of former NFL cornerback Al Harris who came on as the Cowboys' defensive backs coach a few months before Diggs was drafted.

As the Cowboys began to gear up for the playoffs last season, Diggs spoke about how much Harris has helped in his development on the pro level.

“(Al Harris) basically taught me everything I know as far as playing corner in the NFL, the technique, just how to read the quarterback…He knows exactly what’s going on out there. So taking information from him, picking his brain every day has helped me out a lot,” Diggs said.

The Cowboys will certainly look to upgrade the cornerback position if the opportunity presents itself in next week's draft which would improve a defense that took great strides last season by leading the NFL in turnovers (34) and being the top unit on third down. Diggs talked about the Cowboys' defense building off of what they did last year although they'll have to replace a few guys.

"I feel like this defense can go really far," Diggs said. "I'm really excited and proud of what we did last year and I feel like that was a good start to build on. We lost a couple pieces, but we've got to fill those spots and keep going. We've got a good base, a good ground, a good foundation and we've just got to build off that. And we've got the guys to do it, so we've just got to get it done."

Trevon Diggs is right about that. The Cowboys won 12 games last season but didn't notch a win in the postseason, which they've failed to do since 2018. The continued progression of Diggs will help turn that around and hopefully lead to playoff success in Dallas.
