Improving the passing game may not be the top priority for the Dallas Cowboys, but it is on the agenda. It's a passing league, and the Cowboys must find ways to improve its 12th-ranked passing offense in explosive play rate.

Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb are two key pieces in that regard. Lamb has the opportunity to flourish as the No. 1 option with Amari Cooper off to the Cleveland Browns. The third-year Pro Bowler is confident about the challenge.

Offensive line play is another key element. The Cowboys struggled in the trenches in 2021 as the line dealt with injuries and a five-game La'el Collins suspension. More stability along the line of scrimmage will be crucial.

Another way that the Dallas Cowboys can get better on offense is adding a true deep threat to the wide receivers corps.

Free agent wide receiver makes sense for Dallas

Dallas signed former Pittsburgh wide receiver James Washington earlier this offseason. Washington was a star on the collegiate level and has flashed in the NFL — but has yet to be a consistent weapon. He could provide a downfield threat in the offense if everything goes well.

However, banking on Washington is a risky move. Dallas drafted Jalen Tolbert, but the third-round rookie is not known to take the top off the defense. Michael Gallup is a legit downfield target, but he is recovering from multiple injuries and is set to miss multiple games.

Enter Will Fuller, the former Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins burner.

Fuller is one of the fastest players in the league, creating elite separation down the field. He emerged as a downfield weapon for Deshaun Watson in Houston and provided the Dolphins with a vertical target.

The one downside, however, is Fuller's health. He is consistently banged up and struggles to stay on the field. The Cowboys moved on from Amari Cooper for somewhat similar reasons, so that might force them to think twice.

Still, Fuller appears to be a low-cost, low-risk option that could have some meaningful upside. Dallas needs to replace Cooper and Cedrick Wilson out wide, so adding a burner for Prescott to attack secondaries with would be a logical move.
