With the NFL Draft only a few days away, the 2021 season win totals talk has gained steam in social media. Every season, the oddsmakers set each team wins total so you can either take the over or the under. And in one way or another, they give you an idea of how the betting world looks at each NFL team. Here's what the 2021 win totals tell us about the Dallas Cowboys and the rest of the NFC East.
Below are the win totals set for each team as well as the odds for the over and the under, per The Score. Remember there are now 17 games per team in the NFL schedule.
- Dallas Cowboys 9.5 wins (Over +110, Under -130)
- Washington Football Team 8 wins (Over -105, Under -115)
- New York Giants 7 wins (Over -110, Under -110)
- Philadelphia Eagles 7 wins (Over +105, Under -125)
As expected, the Cowboys are the NFC East favorites with Dak Prescott set to return healthy. Although there are plenty of concerns on defense for the Cowboys, a high-powered offense is expected to be the identity of this football team. Judging by the offensive pace they had prior to Dak's injury in 2020, scoring over 30 points per game, it's not hard to imagine them achieving good results with that offense.
On defense, even a small improvement will make a strong impact. The Cowboys are expected to invest heavily in defense in the NFL Draft, but they're not likely to turn into a great unit from one year to another. Instead, it's about moving away from the historically bad performance we witnessed in 2020.
But the Dallas Cowboys are not the only team in the division ready to undergo big changes. In fact, the entire division will see some significant changes. So much so that according to the oddsmakers, the Eagles are now the underdogs of the NFC East.
Washington earns second place in the oddsmakers' eyes because of a very talented defense featuring Chase Young and Montez Sweat as starting pass rushers. But also because little by little, they've built a secondary for themselves as well.
Meanwhile, on offense, they've brought in Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is capable of turning the league upside down every now and again. And they brought Curtis Samuel with him, too! After his first 1,000-yards-from-scrimmage season, Samuel should complement Terry McLaurin pretty well.
But even though some see Washington as the clear #2 team in the NFC East, don't overlook the New York Giants. This is a drastically improved team after a tremendous free agency. Next time Daniel Jones steps out to the field, he'll have Kenny Golladay and speedster John Ross at his disposal. Plus, with the 11th overall pick, the Giants could find another play-maker for Jason Garrett's offense.
Consider the improved offensive line play we've seen from the Giants lately and Saquon Barkley's return to the lineup and the Giants might have something cooking! Last season, they lost plenty of one-possession games, including three between Week 5 and Week 8.
Don't look now but the Giants could end up being the Cowboys' top competitor for the NFC East title.
The Philadelphia Eagles, on the other hand, might be in for a rebuilding period after moving on from Carson Wentz. They're clearly not sold on Jalen Hurts after recent reports emerged on the Eagles being temporarily interested in trading up to No. 3 in the NFL Draft. After winning the Super Bowl a few years ago, the Eagles might be losing ground within the division.
