The rumor mill is buzzing as per usual around this time of the year. Names like Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson are currently in trade rumors. Not to mention, the Dallas Cowboys are still attempting to figure out the Dak Prescott contract situation. While it may seem to be on the back-burner, Wide Receiver Michael Gallup's name has come up around the trade block since last off-season. It's something to keep an eye on. Whether it is during this off-season or at the trade deadline, he's a piece a lot of teams would want. Gallup has compiled 2457 receiving yards and thirteen touchdowns on 158 receptions in his first three years in Dallas. It is not certain that they will trade him, but what is a realistic return they could get for the young stud target?

Cowboys fans hoping that a first-round pick will be included in a deal for Gallup will likely be disappointed. There have only been eleven receivers traded for first-rounders since 2000. Some players in those deals include Brandin Cooks (twice), Deion Branch, Randy Moss, Keyshawn Johnson, and Amari Cooper. Gallup is a really good receiver, but he is not as proven as many of those names on that list. Furthermore, the price for the Dallas receiver is snipped a bit by the fact he will have to receive a contract extension soon. Allen Robinson and Kenny Golladay will most likely make the WR market even more expensive during free agency this year. That means whoever trades for Gallup will have to pay him a pretty penny fairly soon.

So, what is the most probable price that a team would pay for Michael Gallup? The consensus seems to think that the price would be a second-round selection as well as a late day 3 pick or a cheap role player. Dallas already holds ten picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. This would give the Cowboys even more draft capital to invest in the holes on the roster. Many of those holes come on the defensive side of the ball while Wide Receiver is one of their deeper position groups. An additional early second-rounder could help them land help in the secondary or offensive line or defensive line depth.

Alas, the Cowboys should not give up Gallup for a bag of chips and a soda. He is very valuable to them as they try to recruit Dak to sign a long-term deal. Additionally, his presence secures CeeDee Lamb's position as slot receiver where he feasted for much of last season. An offense with Gallup, Lamb, and Amari Cooper at wide receiver will always be lethal. Keeping him around to make a strength an even bigger strength isn't a bad idea at all. Only time will tell which route that Dallas decides to take.

Teams that make the most sense to make a move for Gallup include the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, and Miami Dolphins, among plenty of others. Expect Jerry Jones and co. to possibly shop the receiver around, but he could very well be back in Dallas next season.
