It was all smiles and hugs on Tuesday morning in North Texas after the Dallas Cowboys and Randy Gregory agreed to a five-year, $70 million deal with $28 million in guarantees.

Just a day after the Cowboys signed DeMarcus Lawrence to a three-year deal, it appeared that they secured both starting defensive ends going forward. However, in a shocking turn of events, the deal fell through, and Gregory went to the Denver Broncos under the same terms.

Ed Werder of ESPN mentioned that after Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones pounded the pavement to secure Gregory that the team tried to change the language in the contract after it was agreed upon.

Patrik Walker of CBS Sports echoed the words of Jerry Jones being a major reason for what seemed like a longer-term marriage with Gregory and the Cowboys but also relayed that the changes in the language were not his doing.

So that brings up the question of who is responsible for things going south with Gregory? Losing a player as important as Gregory was to the Cowboys at the last minute isn't a good look on the organization, and could hurt them in future negotiations. Whomever made the call without Jones' approval is certainly in some trouble.

This wasn't ideal for the Cowboys and it will look even worse if Gregory officially signs with the Broncos when free agency kicks off on Wednesday.

Stay tuned until then.
