The Dallas Cowboys are not short of talent on the roster. That is especially true on the offensive side of the ball, where the likes of Dak Prescott, Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, and Amari Cooper reside.
Among the talented players that offensive coordinator Kellen Moore gets to work with is wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. The young wideout just concluded his second season in the NFL in which he eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards and even made his first Pro Bowl appearance.
Still, it feels as if CeeDee Lamb has a much higher ceiling that he can reach — and the Dallas Cowboys need him to get there.
BONAFIDE GO-TO WEAPON

CeeDee Lamb is a terrific wide receiver; one of the best young wideouts in the league. He is a smooth player that knows how to get open and be a real weapon at all levels of the field.
The 2020 first-round draft selection went over the 1,000-yard mark during his first full season catching passes from Dak Prescott. He had multiple games in which he showcased the ability to be a real number one, go-to target. The game-winning touchdown against the New England Patriots was exciting.
That said, we have not seen Lamb emerge as the bonafide alpha wide receiver that he was dubbed to be coming out of Oklahoma.
Draft classmate Justin Jefferson — who was selected five picks after Lamb — has emerged as one of the best wideouts in the game. Rookie Ja'Marr Chase is firmly in that elite-tier discussion at the position. That is the caliber of player many expected Lamb to be out of the gate.
To be clear, this is not to knock CeeDee Lamb. He has all the talent in the world to be on that same level as Jefferson and Chase. His after-the-catch ability is special. We just haven't seen it all put together in the way the other two have shown.
Some of that can be on the play calling and playing alongside a player of Amari Cooper's caliber. Cooper is better than who Jefferson and Chase share the field with, although Adam Thielen and Tee Higgins are very capable players, too.
As for Lamb himself, he did struggle with big drops throughout the year. Most recently, on the potential game-tying drive against the 49ers in the playoffs that contributed to stalling the offense. Cleaning that up would go a long way.
IMPENDING COWBOYS FREE AGENTS

The big reason why the Cowboys need CeeDee Lamb to take another leap forward is because Dallas needs that go-to target on big plays.
Amari Cooper is a very good player, but he too has had moments of disappearing. There is also some speculation that the Cowboys could move on from Cooper for salary cap purposes.
Michael Gallup looks to be on his way to a new team, and Cedrick Wilson is a free agent as well. That's not even mentioning impending free agent tight end Dalton Schultz, who has been a big part of the offense.
Dallas drafted CeeDee Lamb in the first-round with hopes that he would be an elite-level target. While he has shown flashes of greatness, he has not put everything together just yet. Another step forward would make the Dallas Cowboys passing game that much better, especially considering who could be leaving town.
The Cowboys like to spread the ball around, but feeding a talent like Lamb would be beneficial for all parties.
