Wide receiver has been a polarizing topic among Dallas Cowboys fans. From Michael Gallup hitting free agency to what the team might do with Amari Cooper, the position has been a huge topic early in the offseason.
Just a few weeks ago, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver and impending free agent JuJu Smith-Schuster mentioned that he likes the possibility of playing with Dak Prescott. While Smith-Schuster could demand a price tag that would likely be more than the Cowboys want to pay, it would be an interesting addition.
An even more interesting addition would be none other than Odell Beckham Jr., the former superstar of the rival New York Giants.
Jeff Cavanaugh of 105.3 The Fan discussed the topic of Beckham Jr. finding his way to the Dallas Cowboys. It created interesting conversations on social media, to say the least.
WHY OBJ TO COWBOYS MAKES SENSE
While Beckham Jr. is certainly one of the most polarizing players in the National Football League, the idea of him joining the Dallas Cowboys makes some sense.
Off the field, what better way for OBJ to continue to build his already large brand than to play for the most valuable franchise in all of sports? All eyes are on the Dallas Cowboys. The franchise is called America's Team for a reason.
Furthermore, Beckham Jr. has a friendship with Cowboys stars Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott. The three formed a bond during Prescott and Elliott's first Pro Bowl appearance. Beckham Jr. has also spoken highly of the two in the past.
Other than that though, it makes a ton of sense for on-field purposes, too.
The Cowboys could realistically lose at least three wide receivers from its current roster this offseason. Gallup is the most notable, with Cedrick Wilson and Noah Brown also seeking new deals. That makes the position a need for Dallas.
Additionally, Beckham Jr. suffered a torn ACL in the Super Bowl, causing him to leave the game early after a terrific start on the big stage. Beckham Jr. had been playing fantastic football since signing with the Rams prior to the injury.
On one hand, that means OBJ likely won't be ready to play until the end of the 2022 season. On the other, it likely drops Beckham Jr.'s value on the open market.
If the price is right, it would be worthwhile for the Cowboys to look into the possibility of signing the former NFC East star. A one-year deal makes sense for both parties. Having OBJ waiting in the bullpen, so to speak, at the end of the season could pay off big for the Cowboys.
Dallas needs to do something different this offseason to ensure next season isn't a repeat of what we have seen for the past two decades. Perhaps making a splash like this would help the Cowboys take the next step.
