The Cowboys had to resort to Plan B when it came to edge rushers in free agency once Randy Gregory went to the Denver Broncos. On Friday, they signed veteran Dante Fowler to a one-year deal.

Dallas isn't stopping there. According to Jeremy Fowler Of ESPN, the Cowboys are interested in Jason Pierre-Paul.

Pierre-Paul battled a rotator cuff injury in 2021 that required surgery in February. He played in 12 games and recorded 2.5 sacks. However, he has at least 8.5 in the four previous seasons.

The Cowboys' philosophy in free agency is adding low-cost veterans before finding their cornerstone players in the NFL draft. Pierre-Paul fits that way of thinking seeing as he's entering his 13th season at the age of 33.

Pierre-Paul has amassed 91.5 sacks, been named an All-Pro, and made three Pro Bowls throughout his career. He's also registered 21 forced fumbles, 10 fumble recoveries, four interceptions, 60 passes defended, and three defensive touchdowns.

The Cowboys would likely give Pierre-Paul a one-year deal seeing as he wouldn't be a long-term solution. Therefore, the Cowboys can still use a pretty high draft pick one an edge rusher after addressing their needs at left guard and linebacker.

Pierre-Paul may not be what he once was but he could certainly add some situational pass-rushing depth to the Cowboys' defense if the price is right.
