The Denver Broncos are back in the national spotlight, for all the wrong reasons.
Sean Payton was brought in to shake things up and change the franchise for the better. The most recent development from NFL Communications, and shared by Mike Klis from 9News, is sure to make the head coach incredibly angry.
"The NFL confirmed today that Eyioma Uwazurike of the Denver Broncos has been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games in the 2022 season. WUwazurike will be eligible to petition for reinstatement no earlier than July 24, 2024."
The 2022 4th-round pick had eleven solo tackles last season and was looking to make a difference on the defensive line. The Broncos were already thin at that position which makes the suspension that much worse. A huge blow to a group that needed to do everything they could to improve this season.
Uwazurike is the latest in a string of players who are receiving harsh or indefinite suspensions for violating the NFL's policy on gambling. While there is no confirmation on what he bet on, it's a bad look for Uwazurike and the organization.
Broncos fans have been given some positive news over the past few days as it was reported Javonte Williams will be available for camp, this sours some of the positivity surrounding the group.
In an official statement from the Broncos, as reported by Mike Klis from 9News, the Broncos organization had the following to say.
"We were informed by NFL today that Eyioma Uwazurike has been suspended by the league indefinitely for violating its gambling policy. Our organization fully cooperated with this investigation and takes matters pertaining to the integrity of game very seriously. The Denver Broncos will continue to provide all members of our organization with the necessary education, resources and support to ensure compliance with the NFL's Gambling Policy."
