The Denver Broncos have really done the unthinkable the last few weeks. They started the season with one of the worst defenses in the sport's history, allowing a 70-point game and every other bad defensive game. But things have changed a bit.
The Broncos are not only now 4-5 on the year but have won their last three in a row, and both sides of the ball look fine. The offense, which looked good at the beginning of the season, is still okay. It could use some cleaning up in terms of penalties, but it's fine.
The defense, which was one of the worst in the league, if not the worst, has done the unthinkable and virtually turned the season around. One stat, in general, supports that claim. We all know that winning the turnover battle helps, but the Broncos have done that and taken it to a whole other level in the last few weeks.
The Broncos created seven turnovers in the first seven games, which isn't great but could be worse. In the last two games, they have created nine turnovers. This game was no different as they forced Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen to make poor decisions all game long.
That's what won them the game.
"Good win on the road," Payton said as he started his post-game press conference. "We felt the turnover margin would be significant, and it was… Those guys got tired of me talking about it. Defensively, we were on the other end of it, and that was the difference tonight. You finish plus three and win 98% of your games."
The Broncos have done the unthinkable by turning the defense around. Now, the unit is suddenly winning games for the Broncos. They are getting hot at the right time, too. With eight games remaining, the Broncos are now one game out of the playoffs.
