The Denver Broncos drafted Bo Nix in the 2024 NFL Draft, and that means big expectations for the rookie QB. That's not intentional, though, but there is a price that you have to pay when you're the newest Denver Broncos quarterback. There is a lot of pressure on being the quarterback that saves the franchise.
They have had 13 quarterbacks start for them, since 2015, when Payton Manning won them a Super Bowl. That's not a good number to have, but it seems like they just have not been able to nail the position. Now, Nix has to be that guy that changes everything, so the pressure is certainly there.
And, it doesn't help that his head coach, Sean Payton, is somewhat comparing Nix to another Hall of Famer he once coached.
"All right, we're looking for similarities. I would say mentally, [Nix] wants to know as much and as fast as he can," Payton said via DNVR Sports. "I think there's maybe a maturity level because, again, [Nix] played 61 games [in college] and when [the Saints] got Drew, it was off of his rookie contract and coming off an injury. Their personalities are different," Payton said. "[Nix is] the son of a coach. Drew wasn't necessarily the son of a coach."
The Broncos have put some decent weapons around Nix. They also grabbed his former college teammate wide receiver Troy Franklin. With Franklin, Tim Patrick, Marvin Mims, and Sutton, the Broncos can have a fairly good wide receiver room around their rookie quarterback. Now, I'm not going to say that Nix will be Brees, but, he has a good chance to be a good player, one similar to him in terms of skill, as long as they have weapons around him.
Right now they do. But let's slow down. This is a rookie who has yet to play a single snap in the NFL. So, let's slow down with the comparisons. Either way, I think we are in for a decent rookie season in 2024.
