All the talk surrounding a potential DeAndre Hopkins trade has replaced earlier conversations about possible movement in the Denver Broncos receiver room, but that doesn't mean the idea of trading one of the team's top wideouts is dead.
It could be very soon, however. At least in the case of former first round pick Jerry Jeudy.
Per A to Z Sports' Doug Kyed, the Broncos are not only asking a lot for the versatile slot receiver – they're asking for too much:
Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was described by a source as a “more realistic” trade option than Hopkins, but “Denver is pricing him like they don't actually want to move him." So, we’re in a bit of a holding pattern on Jeudy, who’s been priced by Denver as a first-round pick.
“He's a good player but it's a lot,” a source said.
It’s unclear if anything will transpire between the Broncos and Patriots or any other team with Jeudy. – A to Z Sports' Doug Kyed
Jeudy hasn't fully developed into the No. 1 receiver the Broncos envisioned when they drafted him, but he's shown plenty of flashes and there is still plenty of time for him to develop into that guy. The Broncos need to be careful, though. Sure, starting off with a high asking price is kind of how you do things in negotiations, but you also don't want to scare people off or suggest something so ludicrous it burns an option.
The Broncos also don't have too much time to waste. They need to figure out what the want to do when it comes to Jeudy's fifth-year option. The deadline to approve those is May 1 – it'll be here before we know it.
Ultimately, the Broncos have a good problem on their hand if they can't trade Jeudy. He showed the ability to be a very effective X receiver last year, which adds a nice element to his overall game. If Jeudy sticks in Denver, the Broncos will have a nice mix of receivers in Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and KJ Hamler (one he's back from his recent surgery).
Either way, the Broncos are going to be in good shape, no matter what happens.
