The Denver Broncos lost a heartbreaker to the Las Vegas Raiders 17-16.
In the first half, Wilson was dominant, completing passes left and right and looking more like the quarterback that dominated in Seattle. Then, in the second half, the offense sputtered and was unable to execute late in the game.
Wilson finished his day going 27 for 34 for 177 yards and two touchdowns and added one carry for one yard. His 108 passer rating was a welcome sign after an abysmal season last year.
It's safe to say that the loss shouldn't rest on the shoulders of the franchise quarterback. The question is if Wilson did enough to get back the support of the fanbase or if there are still big questions surrounding his ability to play arguably the hardest position in sports.
When speaking to the media, Wilson put everything into perspective, repeating the idea that the game was just one or two plays away from being a victory for the team.
Wilson, when speaking about what may have caused the loss, called out the entire team and their inability to execute late. Wilson's response when asked about why the team couldn't finish drives is an eye-opener that could rub fans the wrong way.
"I think the biggest thing is collective effort as a whole team."
The franchise quarterback took a moment to collect his thoughts before proceeding, perhaps realizing the bluntness of his messaging.
"We are excited about who we are and where we're going to be. I think the biggest thing is to continue to push, got another opportunity next week. Gotta come back ready to swing and go get a win."
All that's left to do is focus on next week. Here's hoping the injuries don't continue and the trend of devastating last-second losses doesn't continue.
