The Denver Broncos had some drama going on in their primetime Saturday game against the Detroit Lions. That was a game that was very winnable, that is, until the Lions started to really pull away. The Broncos had a lot of self-inflicted wounds that didn't help them, and that can be frustrating.
We have seen this team get frustrated before. We have seen Sean Payton get frustrated before. However, what we saw on Saturday directed toward his quarterback, Russell Wilson was kind of wild.
First, let's run through what happened. The Broncos got in a goalline situation, where they handed the ball off to Jaleel McLaughlin, and he had a foot over the plane with the ball in his hands, but the refs called it short.
Then, they tossed it to Javonte Williams, whose head and ball broke the plane just before his knee went down, but the refs called it short. And lastly, the Broncos did a full-back handoff to Mike Burton, who actually ended up scoring the ball. However, they called offsides on the offense, showed the replay, and there is literally nothing happening.
Then the camera angle switches to Payton on the sideline, going irate, yelling at Wilson.
Payton said it was none of anyone's business as he went off on a reporter. Now, Wilson shares his side of the story.
"We wanted to score that drive. More than anything else, we were just frustrated we didn't score there. That's our focus," Wilson said at the podium.
He kind of evades the question, but Wilson isn't going to say Payton was upset at him. And both guys will take the high road every time. No one wants to look bad at all.
However, it happened, and everyone saw it. Let's move past it and hope the Broncos can get ready for the New England Patriots with a day of advantage.
