The Denver Broncos had a terrible season last year. Of the last seven years of bad football, last year may have been worse than that, especially when you factor in all of the preseason expectations.

Most people had this team making the playoffs because of all the additions, but especially because they added Russell Wilson. But, as we all know, everything but the defense went wrong. I mean, everything, too.

Sean Payton, the Broncos' new head coach, knows exactly what the offseason should start with too because there is a lot to fix.

"You know, I think the first thing is just the weightlifting program and the running," Payton said. "Look, it's more of getting to work. We've got a lot of stuff we want to do, but the first month of this offseason will be more weight room and conditioning. It's an area that I think we need to be a lot better in with a lot of injuries last year, and so we will look closely in the offseason and everything from the training room, the weight room, practice, and all those things.

"There are probably a number of things that we didn't do a good enough job with. Hopefully, we can make those corrections, but we've got a lot invested in training the players, conditioning the players and that's the first message is getting ourselves in football shape and getting to work."

Last season the Broncos dealt with more injuries than any other team. In fact, there was a point in time during the regular season when the Broncos had the most money, contract-wise, on their injury report and injured reserve list.

Getting that solved far before the season actually kicks off is one of the best things the Broncos could do. This upcoming season is far too important for the Broncos to not get it right, and that starts with being healthy and having all hands on deck.

This just shows that Payton's head is in the right place about this upcoming season, and fans will likely love to hear his primary focus.
