The Denver Broncos held on to get a much-needed win over the Green Bay Packers. At times, it was worrying as the Packers fought and clawed their way back to make this a game.
Russell Wilson did just enough to will his team to victory and finished the game going 20 for 29 with 194 yards and a touchdown which gave him a 98.9 QBR, a nice bounce-back game from a QB with all eyes on him moving forward.
In the contest, Sean Payton became irate in a now-viral sideline moment as the coaches and players just weren't communicating properly and it nearly proved costly, a sign of how the season has been going thus far.
Speaking after the game, Payton talked about the victory before ultimately taking a shot at his defensive coordinator over the aforementioned timeouts the team needed to use because of a substitution error.
"Don't get me started. That needs to be cleaner, this is the NFL and it shouldn't happen," Payton told reporters. "We get caught burning timeouts twice with substitution changes and we need to get that corrected."
While it was predominately all smiles during the postgame, as is the usual case when a team wins, Payton wasn't happy with this question specifically. Rightfully so, and as Payton alluded to, it can't happen in the NFL. He took a shot at his defensive coordinator, and we can't really blame him for it.
Vance Joseph is already on one of the hottest seats in all of the NFL and this snafu during the contest isn't going to help his case any. While the team won, there are still some big problems they need to address.
On what the victory meant and put the adversity behind them, Payton offered, "The ability to kind of get on to the next play, put the adversity behind you, it's going to come in each game. The teams that have that trait generally fare better and I was glad to see us do that."
Continuing on, discussing what the team needs to execute better heading into the next matchup, Payton provided the following, "We gotta keep battling through the red zone problems and find ways to score more." He continued, "Overall, we did enough today."
