The Denver Broncos found a way to rip our hearts out of our chests, even if it was just a preseason game. I previously wrote about the biggest takeaways from the game in which there was far more good than bad.

Unfortunately, the injury bug just continues to pile onto this team. From Tim Patrick and Jonas Griffith going down for the season, to P.J. Locke and Mike McGlinchey missing time, and so much more.

Last night was no better as WR Jalen Virgil pulled off an insane run after catch to end the first half where he was just inches away from the endzone.

However, despite his heroics and near touchdown, Virgil went down after the play, and at first glance, it didn't look good. Sean Payton wants to load Russell Wilson up with weapons wherever he can and Virgil had been fighting for a roster spot. With the team's past injury luck, we immediately thought the worst.

Virgil, who signed with the team in 2022 as an undrafted free-agent rookie, was a longshot to crack the 53-man roster. Throughout his career, Virgil has amassed nine games with no starts and two catches for 75 yards and a touchdown.

The 25-yerar-old has been outperformed at camp, making it a difficult journey to make the roster. However, at the end of the first half, his stock immediately rose with an impressive run after the catch that was nearly a touchdown.

It's been reported by Mike Klis from 9News that Virgil will need knee surgery to repair his meniscus. Meaning, he's going to miss some time. It's unclear the timeline for his recovery but the positive thing is that his ACL is in tact and he should see the field sometime this season.

The next-man-up type mentality, with the team losing depth at the receiver position, will be more important now than ever. With just one more preseason game left, the front office is going to have some difficult decisions ahead of them.

Here's hoping Virgil has a speedy recovery and continues to claw and fight his way onto the roster. Everyone loves an underdog story.
