The Lions only have 53 roster spots they can fill. That means 37 other players will be looking for a different situation. As it stands, the Lions roster isn't fully figured out. I've made predictions, but those predictions have been evolving. There's still time for players to make a good impression and have a shot.
Here's five players that can do just that and find a way to squeak onto the Lions roster next Tuesday.
Dylan Drummond

This guys has been one of the most talked abotu players all offseason. The undrafted rookie out of Eastern Michigan has a shown a thing or two during training camp. Unfortunately he has struggled during preseason games. That struggle has sort of placed his status with the team up in the air.
He can maybe bring everything back down this week if he's able keep things looking good at camp and then finish off the week with a strong performance against the Panthers. There's still a chance he can make this roster.
Jason Cabinda

Jason Cabinda’s performance during the preseason has some wondering if the Lions need to carry a fullback this year. The idea being that a tight end can essentially play the same role as a fullback when the Lions want to use one. Cabinda can change that thinking around if he’s able to have a good week and a good game against the Panthers.
Julian Okwara

Okwara is a little buried on the Lions depth chart right now, but I just refuse to give up on the guy. He felt like a steal when the Lions drafted him and I still think he’s able to get to the point where he can be contributor for this team. As it stands right now it looks like he’s not going to make it. If he can have a really good week and maybe turn in another multi sack performance, maybe he can change some minds and grab a spot.
Jermar Jefferson

Jefferson has been with this team since 2021 and he hasn’t been able to really churn out a roster spot for himself. Last year he spent the entire season on the practice squad. He’s trending that way again this year. Every now and then he shows these crazy flashes like he did against the Steelers in 2021. If he can show another flash like that this week, he might have a chance. The Lions running back three spot isn’t fully sewed up that point and with Jason Cabinda maybe not making the roster, that could open things up for the Lions to carry more running backs.
Khalil Dorsey

I’ve been impressed with what I’ve seen from Dorsey in these two preseason games. He’s showed some playmaking ability and he graded out well on Pro Football Focus. The Lions secondary is pretty figured out, but there’s some depth spots where Dorsey could maybe find a way to make the roster of he’s able to cap everything off with a solid week. He might be able to edge out guys like Steven Gilmore or Brady Breeze. Guys that I’m not totally sure will make the 53 man roster.
Lions depth chart prediction after second preseason game
Two preseason games down for the Detroit Lions and one to go. The Lions depth chart and 53 man roster are starting to come into focus a little more every single day. Just like last week when we had a lot of changes, we've got more changes today after a few waivers and some revelations […]
