Things for the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs matchup took a bit of a swerve on Tuesday when All-Pro Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce went down with an apparent knee injury at practice.
The good news for Kelce and the Chiefs is that there doesn't appear to be any structural damage that should keep Kelce out for any serious time. The bad news is that he will have to miss Thursday's season opener against the Lions.
The Chiefs put a questionable designation on Kelce on Wednesday and then decided to put him through a workout Thursday morning to give his knee a test.
After making Kelce a game time decision, the Chiefs have decided to play it safe and save Kelce for presumably next week.
On the Lions side of things, they'll now play Super Bowl champions without two of their very best players. Defensive tackle Chris Jones is in the middle of a hold out and now the Chiefs top receiving threat will miss this game.

With that said, a win here in primetime will do a lot for the Lions right away and in the long run. We'll see how things shakeout tomorrow night.
