The Detroit Lions signed away one of their NFC North rivals’ biggest playmakers Wednesday when they added running back David Montgomery on a three-year contract.

We now know the full details of Montgomery’s contract with the Lions.

It’s a three-year contract worth $18 million with a $4.5 million signing bonus and $11 million in total guarantees. Montgomery has $29,412 in per-game roster bonuses each season that total up to $1.5 million. The deal also includes a void year for salary cap purposes.

Here’s a breakdown of Montgomery’s base salaries and cap hits:

2023: $1.125M fully guaranteed; cap hit of $2.875M
2024: $5.25M ($3M fully guaranteed; additional $2.25M fully guaranteed if on roster third day of 2024 league year); $6.875M cap hit
2025: $5.5M; $7.125M cap hit
2026: Void; $1.125M cap hit

Montgomery joins D’Andre Swift, Craig Reynolds and Greg Bell on the Lions’ running back depth chart. Detroit is not expected to re-sign Jamaal Williams with Montgomery now on board.
