Things are trending in the wrong direction for Detroit Lions Left Guard Jonah Jackson. He walked out of Ford Field in a walking boot on Sunday after the Lions win over the Carolina Panthers. He's not practice since and that streak has extended to Friday.
Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell was asked on Friday what the Lions plan would be if Jackson can't go and he laid out a few options for the team.
"We've got guys in this building we trust." Campbell said. Vaitai's had a pretty good week of practice. Certainly, we know what Graham (Glasgow) brings to the table for us. Yodie (Kayodie Awosika) has gotten better. So I mean, we've got options. Skip's (Dan Skipper) back ready to go. So we've got a couple different set of situations that we can go through here and we've we've kind of rolled through them. We feel good though."
Who would be the best fit on the left side? Graham Glasgow has been playing very well at right guard this seasons, so it seems like messing with that would be a bad idea.
Halapoulivaati Vaitai seems like the most logical answer. He returned form injury last week, but would up not playing any snaps. Vaitai has played on the left side before, but as a left tackle. He's spent most of his time in Detroit playing guard on the right side, so it makes sense that they would shift him over to the left.
The other options are Dan Skipper. He's played left guard for 284 snaps in 2022 when Jackson was away for a bit. He handled it ok. Then there's Kayode Awosika. He got a couple starts at guard for the Lions in 2022 as well.
Vaitai is more than likely the option the Lions go with. As for Jackson, we'll see where things are at when the Friday injury report and designations come out. All signs are sort of pointing to him out at this point.
Lions’ Zonovan Knight is reportedly out for the rest of the season
You hate to see this happen to a player. Especially a player that there were some significant hopes for. Detroit Lions running back Zonovan Knight is now reportedly out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. Knight went down after a hard run against the Carolina Panthers in the second half on […]
