Training camp for the Detroit Lions is set to start Wednesday as the teams rookies report for duty. Things don't really get under way until the vets come to camp on Saturday, but the machine is now in motion.
With that in mind, it's time to talk about what this camp means for the Lions. This is a slated to be a big season for this team. Many believe the Lions are the favorites to win the NFC North this year. Some believe they might go even further than that.
Questions need to be answered in this first step of the year before the Lions can get to the glory down the road. Some questions a bigger than others. Today we want to talk about the ones that burn hotter than any others. Let's jump into it.
Can Jared Goff find chemistry with his new weapons?

The Lions offense is slated to be a lot different than it was in 2022. Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs and Sam LaPorta are all expected to be big parts of the Lions receiving game going forward. These are all guys that Goff has little to no experience playing with.
There's bound to be some bumps in the road from a chemistry standpoint. Goff has a month to work on that chemistry with these guys. How will that turn out? Will the bumps get smoothed out before the season starts? Or will those bumps show in Week 1?
How will John Scott’s arrival change the Lions defensive line?

There’s a big change to the Lions defensive line. Todd Wash left the team in February to join the Carolina Panthers coaching staff. That’s who everyone on this line has been used to working with over the last few years. Now the Lions have a new defensive line coach in former Penn State coach John Scott.
How much will that change things? You have to believe that it will make a big difference in terms of of philosophy and how this unit practices. Will it change anything schematically? That an answer we're looking forward to getting.
Can the Lions stay healthy?

It’s a fair question to ask. This team has dealt with a ton of injuries over the course of the Campbell/Holmes regime. The Lions have made a lot of changes to their strength and conditioning team and they also hired a new head trainer.
Will that make changes with this teams health? The team really needs to hope that it does. Especially on the offensive line. This unit has been together for years now. but they've never really actually played together since someone has always been injured. This is a big one for the Lions. Let's see if they can get to the season without any major injuries.
Are the Lions done making moves?

There’s just something about this team that doesn’t seem fully set yet. Maybe it’s the receiving corps. Maybe it’s the defensive ends, I don’t know. It just seems like the Lions are a piece or two away from being the best team that they can be this year.
Whether it's a trade or they bring someone in via free agency, the big question is will they bring in someone? We have them them making a splash in our bold predictions piece from earlier this week. Will they indeed prove us right there?
Is the culture still there?

This is the biggest question of them all. It’s year three. Does this team still have that fighting culture that they’ve displayed over the last two years? Do they still have that drive and that determination now that the world thinks much more highly of them?
I think we can partially answer this question and say that from what we've seen so far this offseason, the answer is yes. Although it does seem to be transitioning to a different ethos. Last year it was all about grit. This year the Lions seem to want to be the villains. How will that play out during camp and what difference will it make once the Lions take the field at Arrowhead Stadium September 7th?
