Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has established himself as one of the best pass catchers in the NFL. Even though he’s at the top of his game, St. Brown’s willingness to learn and improve will only propel him to new heights.

One of the people St. Brown leans on for information is Marvin Jones Jr. The duo passed each other like ships in the night with St. Brown arriving in Detroit via the 2021 NFL Draft. Jones, a free agent at the time, elected to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars that same offseason.

Jones, 33, is a fountain of knowledge. Entering his 12th season in the NFL, Jones has seen it all. While he still has good football left in the tank, the Lions’ decision to sign him to a one-year deal this offseason gives the team another downfield threat and puts a veteran in the wide receivers room.

On Tuesday, St. Brown spoke highly of Jones. The two are obviously at different places in their careers and with their games, but St. Brown is clearly interested in the keys to Jones’ longevity.

“He’s obviously doing something right, so I was just asking him what his workout routine is, what he does, because I have a certain way of working out in the offseason,” St. Brown said. “I know everyone’s different, so I was just asking him a bunch of questions on what he does. What he told me is that everyone’s different, which is right, everyone’s body is different so just asking him a bunch of questions. I can never ask enough.”

St. Brown’s eagerness to learn doesn’t stop on the football field. Jones, who taught himself the Spanish language, is helping St. Brown, who already is fluent in French and German, along as he begins on the same journey.

“He told me he speaks Spanish, and he told me he’s self-taught,” St. Brown continued. “I want to learn Spanish, so I asked him how he learned. I’m on the same path. Hopefully next year by this time, I’ll be fluent.”

The two share a unique relationship, almost like how a little brother wants to emulate everything his big brother can do. Jones is an excellent player for St. Brown to mimic, especially when it comes to his work ethic and cognitive abilities. Early returns suggest this duo is a match made in football Heaven.
