Detroit Lions star defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson (aka Ceedy Duce) loves him some trash talk, so it makes all the sense in the world that he had a message for the entire NFL after helping his team beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football.
Just a quick heads up: There's some language in the following video to be mindful of.
"Hey, it's not the same! It's not the same Detroit! It ain't the same Detroit," Gardner-Johnson repeats before putting on his trademark ski mask.
"This s*** is the real thing! It's the real thing!"
The veteran safety played a role in the Lions' upset win, notching five tackles and two pass break-ups. It was the PBUs that represented his biggest highlights, however, as both came on back-to-back plays in the fourth quarter that forced the Chiefs into attempting a 4th-and-20 in order to try and keep their potential game-winning drive going.
The Lions were +6.5 underdogs coming into the game and sure, neither Travis Kelce nor Chris Jones were on the field for the Chiefs. But at the same time, the Lions not only overcame a seven-point second-half deficit to win the game, they did it on the road and in front of hostile crowd in Arrowhead Stadium.
And, they still beat Patrick Mahomes, which is hard enough to do by itself.
Granted, this is only Week 1. And as the Lions know from their dreadful 1-6 start in 2022, things can look entirely different come Week 18.
But for now, Gardner-Johnson and co. deserve to celebrate this win and they deserve to bask in the well-earned confidence that comes with the dub.
4 winners and 2 losers from Lions vs Chiefs
What a night that was for the Detroit Lions. That really happened everyone. The Lions went into the Super Bowl champions home and walked out with a win in front of a national audience in prime time. The Lions went toe to toe with the best team in football and came out ahead in dramatic […]
