Detroit Lions HC Dan Campbell tops betting odds for prestigious award
2023 could be a big year for Dan Campbell with the Detroit Lions.
2022 went about as well as it could've for the Detroit Lions. The team came as close to a playoff run as it could while maintaining a deep store of capital for the 2023 NFL Draft, leaving the present and future very bright for the young team.
The Lions were trending in the right direction in most of the offensive and coaching areas, and the defense should follow soon with a few key signings and draft picks.
This should all work together perfectly to put Dan Campbell in an extremely competitive position for Coach of the Year in this upcoming season.
Coach of the Year usually falls to the coach of the team that takes the biggest jump over the prior season (or wins the most games over expected in recent years) and the Lions have a great opportunity to achieve both under Campbell next year.
With the Packers and Vikings sure to be beatable in the NFC North, the Lions have a real shot of winning the division and securing a playoff spot outside of the wildcard, and that happening for Detroit should be enough on its own to secure this honor.
Even the top betting oddsmakers are taking notice of this prime positioning:
Betting odds aren't everything and even a novice bettor can tell you that these odds are still quite long, but this sure does look like a good bet on its face.
Campbell did everything right in 2022 to make this team competitive and to make losses close when they occurred. The next step is turning those close losses into close wins, and that gets more likely by the day as this team ages and continues to develop consistency under this coaching staff.
+1000 doesn't look that bad when you really stop and look at it, but you can rest assured that Dan Campbell cares very little for an award like Coach of the Year. All he probably wants to see is the Lions in the playoffs and winning football games. Still, the awards are sure to come if the team continues on its current trajectory.
