The Detroit Lions have done very well with just about everything so far this offseason.

From new additions via the draft and free agency to the overall plans for these players, the Lions look like they are moving in the right directions in all the ways that matter.

That also appears to be what is happening with new quarterback addition Hendon Hooker. Hooker is one of the shining examples of all the ways this franchise is doing everything in the right way.

Hooker comes to a Lions team that doesn't necessarily need a quarterback at the moment. Jared Goff over a career may not be all that flashy, but his most recent season with the Lions shows a player to build around for a hopeful deep playoff run.

Hooker does nothing to take away from said run. An injury suffered in college left Hooker for someone to select in a middle round, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good player or a steal in such a late round.

The former Tennessee quarterback wasn't expected to be available in the third round and the Lions were able to jump on one of the best value selections in the class.

The good news for everyone is that the Lions have the perfect plan to make the most of Hooker as a player. And no, it doesn't come at the expense of the present.

Hooker isn't playing in his first year. Does this come as a surprise? No, it shouldn't. The Lions are committed to Jared Goff and to winning in as many ways as possible in 2023.

Beyond that is still up for discussion, and giving Hooker time to grow and get used to the system as he heals in a "redshirt season" is the best way to make the most of his skills.

Good on the Lions for making the most of this awesome situation. It may take some time before we see the fruits of this decision, but either way it is good to see the Lions going about this in the right way.
