The NFL is awarding Detroit with one of the most exciting experiences the football world has to offer. With Detroit set to host in 2024, the dates for draft weekend have officially been released, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Detroit is just the seventh host since 1964. The event was held in New York City’s Radio Hall for 50 years (1964-2014) and has since been hosted in Cleveland, Philadelphia, Chicago, Nashville, Arlington and most recently Kansas City.
"The draft has become a prominent offseason event across the country, and we are excited to work with the Lions and their partners to bring the 2024 NFL Draft to the Motor City," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in a statement. "With the help of Visit Detroit, the Detroit Sports Commission, and the city of Detroit, the Lions passionate fan base and all visitors will be treated to an incredible three-day experience."
With the dates now set, the plan is for the main stage to be centered around Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza. Lions president Rod Wood has previously stated that Detroit’s bid was focused on making it a citywide celebration.
Detroit beat out the other Green Bay and Washington D.C. for 2024 hosting duties. Green Bay will be hosting in 2025, so it is important for Detroit to set the bar high.
Lions owner Sheila Hamp is very excited about the news. Though Detroit can oftentimes fly under the radar, the city will have an opportunity to put on a show for the football world.
“Very excited about showing off the city for millions of reasons,” Hamp said. “It’s been a city that’s sometimes overlooked or disparaged for certain reasons, but we all know better, those of us that are there. All the wonderful things that are happening there. So we’re very excited to show the world what we’re all about.
"As I said in the room when I thanked the ownership for voting for us, I promise we will put on a wonderful show and 2024 is going to be a great draft.”
