The past few days have been eventful in all of the wrong ways for the Detroit Lions, but the good news for the team is the timing of when it happened.

As tough as it may be to lose Jameson Williams and some depth pieces for varying periods of time, the 2023 NFL Draft is coming up and the Lions have an obvious way to stem the bleeding.

With Williams out for six games and Quintez Cephus off the team, most bettors out there would be wise to start marrying the Lions and some of the top receivers together.

The Lions do still have their best wide receiver and some decent depth receivers to start the season with, but there is no reason to short-change yourself when there is no downside to drafting a receiver with one of the top picks.

The Lions have plenty of depth and the need for a decent set of hands to start the season in what could be a top role. Williams coming back doesn't hurt this equation.

If the Lions go high enough with one of their picks, which they should strongly consider, they start the season with a great duo for Jared Goff to focus on (perhaps better than they one they had last season to start out), and then Williams makes this a great starting trio.

As mentioned, the depth is decent, but none of those guys are good enough to simply avoid addressing the new holes altogether.

It may mess up relationships with the likes of Josh Reynolds, but at the end of the day, the opportunity to put together one of the best wide receiver rooms in the NFL is far too good to pass up.

A move like this just makes far too much sense now, especially with the question marks surrounding Jameson Williams after all the time he has/will miss. Use the capital and make at least one pick-it'll work better in the end.
