Sometimes you just feel things in this business. On Wednesday I wrote about how I had noticed that a lot of younger coaches with NFL experience had been getting hired lately and how I felt that Lions practice squad quarterback David Blough could be a guy that could hit the coaching ranks soon.
Less than 24 hours later and he did just that. Blough has retired from playing in the NFL and he has joined the Washington Commanders coaching staff as their assistant quarterbacks coach.
That is awesome for Blough. He's getting a good head start with a solid coaching staff and he'll be able to play a part in the growth and progression of the second overall pick if the Commanders stick there and draft a quarterback.
If things go well, look for Blough to be a guy that can climb the ladder in the NFL. He's a very smart guy and processes the game in a way that could make him an offensive coordinator or even a head coach some day. I look forward to seeing what Blough can do as a coach. The Lions are expected to play the Commanders again in 2025. We'll see Blough then.
