Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is already making a ton of noise at this years training camp. On Tuesday he scored six touchdowns during red zone drills and he made crazy catches all over the field on every other drill. It seems to us that he's primed for a big year. We're not the only ones who think that though.
Jared Goff worked out with St. Brown in Huntington Beach, California this summer and while Goff put up a highlight or two of his own, he came away from that workout thinking that his top receiver was ready to do some big things. So much so that he texted Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson this.
"St. Brown. Huge year"
That's it. That's the text. Is there really anything more that needs to be said? St. Brown is wowing everyone right now and he appears to be taking away his quarterbacks ability to write complete sentences.
What would a huge year do for St. Brown and the Lions? Everything is the answer. We already know that St. Brown is a good receiver. Some players, coaches and execs around the league know that too. But what if we haven't seen the best of him yet?
If St. Brown can go out and have a huge year like Goff is predicting, the Lions have a real shot at having one of the leagues top offenses again and also have a shot a winning their division for the first time since 1993. As for St. Brown himself, I mean the last three out of four players to win the Offensive Player of the Year award were receivers. Maybe St. Brown makes it four out of five. There could be some real talk of contract extensions before you know it.
You have to hope that Jared Goff has some sort of Final Destination premonition power that allows him to see whether or not his receiver will be good as opposed to whether or not a plane is going to crash. If so, I wonder if he'll be able to predict the size of St. Brown's contract extension he'll likely be getting sooner than later.
