The Detroit Lions continue their draft process ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. Part of that process is hosting draft prospects for top-30 draft visits. On Thursday the Lions hosted their biggest draft visit yet when they had Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry in Allen Park.
This would not be the Lions first interaction with McKinstry. The had a formal meeting with him at the NFL Combine and then Brad Holmes himself attended the Alabama Pro-Day. It might not totally count, but Holmes and the Lions were present at an Alabama game last year to scope out Jahmyr Gibbs and Brian Branch. McKinstry was on that team.
McKinstry is ranked as PFF fifth best cornerback in this draft and he's the top cornerback option that the Lions would be able to score with the 29th pick. Kool-Aid watch is officially on for the Lions.
McKinstry finished last season by holding quarterbacks to a completion percentage of just 48.7%. He was only targeted 39 times all year and didn't miss a single game. Teams just hesitated to throw his way. For a team that could very well be interested in cornerbacks, McKinstry is a guy that they would be lucky to have. He could be a future lockdown cornerback.
