Lions leader can take new title in 2023

The Detroit Lions may still have some holes on their roster as they inch closer to the start of the 2023 season, but quarterback isn't one of them.
No, the team doesn't need a new quarterback. Yes, Jared Goff just had an elite season, and it stands to reason that he can reach new heights this year.
There is even a great opportunity for Goff to prove he is the best quarterback in the NFC. Did anyone have that on their Bingo card when he arrived in Detroit a few years back?
Goff may have experienced a decline during his final years with the Rams, but that certainly wasn't the case in 2022.
The QB1 in Detroit finished sixth in the league in total passing yards (third in the NFC), sixth in the league in passing touchdowns (third in the NFC), and did all of that while throwing for just seven interceptions.
There is still obviously an extra level that separates Goff from the likes of Mahomes or Burrow, but that performance was undoubtedly elite compared to the NFC or the league as a whole.
The good news for Goff is that he is already one of the best quarterbacks in the NFC and there isn't much competition for the future as it stands.
Statistically the only guys above Goff last season were Geno Smith, Kirk Cousins, and Tom Brady. One of those guys just retired, and the other two are beatable in the passing touchdowns and yards categories.
Outside of those two, the only other threats to Goff are Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott. Both are great quarterbacks, but again, Goff beat both in plenty of areas last season, and he is still just 28 years old.
It would be hard to pull off given the talent he is up against in part, but it is absolutely on the table that Jared Goff continues improving in 2023 and claims the title as the best quarterback in the NFC (or something very close to it).
A new era has become in Detroit.
